Spyro just opened up about his father’s harsh treatment growing up, and some of what he shared about his childhood will genuinely break your heart today.

You know that friend who always seems so calm and put-together, the one who never seems to have a bad day? Turns out, even they carry things you’d never guess. That’s basically what’s happening with Spyro right now.

The singer, real name Oludipe David, just opened up about his relationship with his father, and it’s a lot heavier than his usual chill, “Jesus boy” image would have you believe.

He talked about beatings from over two decades ago that still feel fresh to him. Spyro also mentioned how his dad, who was a pastor, would sometimes tell other people he was a thief whenever money went missing at home, only to later show up with a peace offering, like milk, once he realized he’d accused the wrong person. Honestly, what’s a carton of milk supposed to fix after something like that?

Spyro says all of this built up a kind of anger that shows up even now whenever he’s around his father, and healing hasn’t been a straight line for him. He credits his mum for holding things together and stopping the pain from completely changing who he became.

It’s easy to see why this is making people pause. Spyro isn’t someone you’d associate with a hard childhood story like this. He comes off gentle, grounded, almost unbothered in interviews. But this is a reminder that a calm exterior doesn’t always tell you what someone’s been through.

At the end of the day, this feels less like gossip and more like a grown man finally saying out loud what he’s carried quietly for years. And that takes guts.
