Patience Ozokwor, Nollywood’s fierce “Mama G,” turned 68 on September 14 and celebrated with dancing, joy, and a heartfelt thank-you to fans.
If you grew up watching Nigerian movies, you know that when Patience Ozokwor walked into a scene, you sat up. Mama G doesn’t play. She’s the mother-in-law you fear, the villain you love to hate, the woman whose glare alone could end an argument.
So when a video of her dancing and laughing at her birthday party started making rounds online, people couldn’t help but smile. This is not the Mama G we’re used to.
Ozokwor turned 68 on Monday, September 14, and clearly, she came to celebrate. In the clip, she’s dressed in a flowing gown with colourful wrappers over her shoulders, sunglasses on, moving her body to music in the compound of a big house. Around her, friends and well-wishers are clapping, dancing, and recording every second on their phones. You can hear them singing “Happy birthday, happy birthday, we love you” as she grooves along, looking completely at peace.
It’s a small moment, but it hits differently. Here’s a woman who’s spent decades playing tough, intimidating characters on screen, and for once, we get to see her just… enjoying life. No script, no drama, just Mama G being Mama G off-camera.

Born on September 14, 1958, in Ngwo, Enugu State, Ozokwor started out as a broadcaster with Radio Nigeria before moving into acting.
Her big break came with the 1999 film Authority, and from there, she became the queen of playing formidable mothers and strong-willed women that Nollywood fans still talk about today.
Her career has earned her serious recognition too, including a Best Supporting Actress win at the 2013 Africa Movie Academy Awards and an Industry Merit Award at the 2023 Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards.
After the celebration, she also took to Instagram to share a message of gratitude, thanking God for life, good health, and a sound mind, while appreciating what she calls her “MamaG Lovers.”
At 68, with decades of iconic roles behind her, Ozokwor still knows how to steal a moment, this time, just by being herself and having fun.
