Ruth Kadiri shuts down death hoax rumours, revealing that up to eight fake accounts pushed the same false story overnight.
Imagine waking up on a Sunday morning, checking your phone, and finding out the internet has killed you off overnight. That’s basically what happened to Nollywood actress Ruth Kadiri.
Rumours started flying that she’d died in a car accident. Not from one shady page, but from what looked like seven or eight accounts all pushing the same fake story at once. Coordinated, timed, and clearly designed to spread fast before anyone could catch it.
So Kadiri did what she had to do. She hopped on Instagram and set the record straight herself.
“Hey guys, please note that I am alive. I did not have any accident, and I am safe,” she said in the video. She explained that she’d literally woken up to find several accounts had sprung up overnight just to run this exact story.
Here’s the thing though, she didn’t waste time arguing with the trolls or trying to prove her side point by point. Her approach was simpler: just report the pages.
“Just one click, one report, that’s all I require from you. Don’t even bother trying to debunk the news; just report the page,” she told her followers.
You’d think being falsely declared dead would just be annoying, but Kadiri made it clear it’s more than that. It actually hurts.
“I am really sad at the extent to which some people will go on this social media space to hurt and wish death on another person. I stay in my lane. Leave me alone. I beg you all. It’s really becoming tiring and sad,” she said.
And honestly, that hits different. This isn’t the first time we’ve seen this happen to a Nigerian celebrity, and it probably won’t be the last. Fake death stories have become a weird little industry on social media, complete with edited photos and dramatic headlines, all built to rack up shares before the truth even has a chance to catch up.
That’s really the scary part. Lies travel fast. Corrections crawl. By the time Kadiri’s clarification reached half the people who saw the original hoax, who knows how many had already believed it, panicked, or shared it further.
Through all this noise, Kadiri hasn’t let it slow her down. She’s still fully focused on her project Once Upon a Village, the series she puts out through her platform RuthKadiri247, with Episode 5 recently dropping and featuring Henrietta Ibekwe and Deza The Great.
So yes, she’s alive, she’s fine, and she’s still working. Maybe the real story here isn’t even about Kadiri specifically. It’s about how easily a lie can spread online, and how tired public figures are getting of cleaning up messes they didn’t create.
