RealWarriPikin explains why she jumped on Timaya at AFRIMA and tells fans pushing her to leave her marriage to relax, she’s staying put.
Okay, so you’ve probably seen the clip by now. RealWarriPikin, jumping on Timaya, mid-performance, at the AFRIMA Awards in Dallas. And the internet? The internet did what it does best, it ran with it.
But here’s the thing. She’s cleared it all up now, and honestly, the real story is way less dramatic than Twitter made it sound.
Turns out she had no idea what she was walking into.
According to Anita Asuoha, the woman behind RealWarriPikin, she was backstage when Timaya called for a lady to join him onstage. She was excited, in a good mood, so she ran out, no script, no warning, nothing.
“That was how I ran out,” she said, basically admitting she just followed the vibe without thinking too far ahead.
Apparently, when Timaya performs his song “Ukwu,” there’s usually a bit where a fan jumps on him and he carries them. Classic Timaya theatrics. But Anita says nobody told her that was the plan, and once she found out, she actually tried to back out.
“I told him that I cannot, but he said I should just forget about it and not spoil his performance,” she explained. So really, she got talked into it on the spot.
And on the night itself? Nobody cared.
Everybody was laughing, the crowd loved it. It’s only once the clip hit social media that things turned. “Online it was not funny,” she said, and honestly, that’s the story of social media in one sentence, isn’t it. Something can be pure fun in person and become a whole controversy the second a camera catches it out of context.
Then came the part that really got under her skin, people telling her to leave her marriage. Just because of a comedy stunt.
She wasn’t having it. “All my online in-laws want me out of the marriage. Where do you people want to put me, where am I going? I am married well; where do I want to go?” She even admitted her husband was upset about the whole saga too, which, fair, nobody wants their spouse trending for jumping on another man on stage.
Still, she made her stance clear: this isn’t who she is, and she’s not letting one awkward viral moment define her marriage.
Oh, and in case you missed it, she actually won Best Stand-Up Comedian at AFRIMA that same night, beating out Basketmouth, Bovi, and Godfrey. So really, this should be a win story. It just came with a very chaotic footnote.
