Davido recently admitted that Nigerian entertainers, including himself, have not done enough to speak up about the country’s problems. Then a critic told him “God punish you and your family.” His response has now gone viral.
The singer took to X on May 30th to express his frustration over the state of Nigeria. He wrote about the injustice going on in the country and admitted that entertainers are failing in their duty to speak up .
“I can’t lie, we entertainers… we dey fuck up, I won’t lie, including me. We need to speak up. It’s too much injustice going on. Our country don go,” Davido posted .
His words drew mixed reactions. Many people agreed with him. But one social media user identified as Princess Luna launched a scathing attack on the singer.
She accused him of being insincere and called his comments performative rubbish. Then she dropped a heavy curse on him and his family .
“Na God go punish you and your family. Go and do that performative rubbish in your City Boys group chat and get out of my face with all this pretentious nonsense. Na foolish Nigerians I blame,” she wrote .
Princess Luna also linked Davido to the City Boys Movement. This is a youth support group for President Bola Tinubu that was started by the president’s son, Seyi Tinubu .
Davido did not let that slide. He fired back with four direct points.
First, he denied being part of any City Boy group. He made it clear that he has no political affiliation with the movement .
Second, he reminded the critic that he has spoken against the government before. He recalled when he called out the government on American media. According to him, the same Nigerians now criticising him rained curses on him back then .
Third, he clarified his friendship with Seyi Tinubu. He admitted they have been friends for years. But he said that is where it stops. He also noted that he calls and complains to Seyi about the country’s problems all the time, even in person .
Then he dropped his final response. “God punish your generation,” the singer wrote .
This exchange did not happen because a critic slammed the Tinubu government directly. It happened because Davido tried to speak honestly about Nigeria’s problems and a critic accused him of being fake because of his friendship with the president’s son .
The conversation has since divided the internet. Some fans say Davido was right to defend himself. Others believe the critic made a valid point about his connections to power.
What is clear is that Davido remains unafraid to speak his mind. Whether people agree with him or not, he always responds directly. And this time, his response has become another viral moment in his long list of social media battles.
