Remember Khafi and Gedoni from the Big Brother Naija house? They’ve just clocked six years of marriage, and they’re still very much together.
Khafi marked the day with a long Instagram post on Thursday. She talked about the good days and the not-so-good ones. They’ve loved, fought, laughed and cried, she said, and she credits their faith for holding it all together.
Here’s the part I liked. Khafi admitted she still feels a little shy talking about marriage in public. Couples who’ve been at it for decades know far more than she does, and she doesn’t want to sound like she has it all figured out. Still, she said it’s one of her favourite things to talk about. Relatable, right?
Then she turned to Gedoni and thanked him for being patient and tolerant. She called him her “own Emmanuel,” which means “God with me.” She ended by wishing the two of them “100 years” together. Big prayer, but why not?
Quick refresher if you need one. They met on the 2019 Pepper Dem season of BBNaija, and their romance was one of the storylines viewers followed most closely.
Things moved fast after that. Gedoni proposed in December 2019 during a trip to Cape Verde. They planned an April 2020 wedding, but Covid-19 had other ideas and everything got postponed.
They didn’t wait around, though. On 24 September 2020, they tied the knot at the Ikoyi Marriage Registry in Lagos, with a traditional ceremony following later.
Today, they’re parents to two children, and they’ve kept sharing family moments and past anniversaries online.
Khafi, a former police officer in London who’s originally from Ekiti State, and Gedoni, a fashion entrepreneur, are part of a small group of BBNaija couples who got married after meeting on the show. Bam Bam and Teddy A are another.
Reality TV romances don’t always make it past the finale. So when one gets to year six, with two kids and a lot of gratitude, people notice. Here’s to many more years for them.
