“Pray For Me” by Nigerian singer Darey featuring South Africa’s Soweto Gospel Choir is a song about chasing dreams, facing life’s struggles and asking for prayers along the way.
The song follows the story of a young man who leaves home to pursue a better future but discovers that life in the city is not as easy as he expected. As he struggles to find his way, he hopes his parents will pray for him.
Darey revealed that the story was partly inspired by the experiences of Nigerian music duo P-Square as they pursued their music careers despite challenges with their family. However, the song carries a wider message about independence, family and the difficulties people face while trying to succeed.
The Soweto Gospel Choir adds powerful harmonies that give the song an emotional and uplifting sound. Its music video features veteran Nollywood actors Olu Jacobs and Joke Silva.
“Pray For Me” earned recognition at the 2016 Headies, winning Best Recording of the Year and Best R&B Single.
