Asake and Seun Kuti have submitted six entries for the 2027 Grammys. Here’s what they’re going for, their past nominations, and the key dates to watch.

Two big Nigerian names are back in the Grammy conversation. Asake and Seun Kuti have sent in six entries for the 2027 Grammys, and both want a place in the Best African Music Performance category.

Quick reality check, though. Submitting isn’t the same as getting nominated. It’s just the first step, but it’s still exciting to see.

He entered four works and spread them across several categories.

His album, M$NEY, is up for Album of the Year and Best Global Music Album. Then there’s Gratitude, which is going for Record of the Year, Song of the Year and Best African Music Performance. That’s a lot of big doors to knock on.

Jogodo, his song with Wizkid, is also in the Best African Music Performance race. And Worship, which features French DJ Snake, is aiming for Best Dance Pop Recording.

Seun, son of Afrobeat legend Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, entered two songs, Na Dem and Problems. Both are chasing Best African Music Performance.

He’s been close before. In 2019, he and his band, Egypt 80, were nominated for their album Black Times in the Best World Music Album category. They didn’t take the win home.

Asake knows that feeling too. He got his first nomination in 2024 for Amapiano, his song with Olamide, and another in 2025 for MMS with Wizkid. Both times, no trophy.

So you can see why fans are watching closely. Two artists, a few near misses, and a lot of unfinished business.

Nominations announced: November 16, 2026
Final voting: December 10 to January 7, 2027
Grammy ceremony: February 7, 2027, in Los Angeles

Nothing is guaranteed yet. But after a few nominations that didn’t turn into wins, it’d be sweet to see either of them finally hold that gramophone. Now we wait for November 16 and see who makes the list.
