Nathaniel Bassey brings his new worship project The Life Recording to a close with “New Beauty,” the seventh and final track on the album.
The song is a beautiful way to end the project because the message is about God bringing something new out of a person’s life. It speaks to that season when you may have gone through difficult moments, but you are trusting God to turn things around and bring beauty out of what you’ve experienced.
Interestingly, “New Beauty” was one of the songs Nathaniel Bassey mentioned before the release of the album, when he announced The Life Recording as a new live worship experience. He specifically listed it alongside “The Battle Belongs to God Medley” and “Glory to God in the Highest.”
And that makes the song feel like a fitting conclusion to the project. The album takes listeners through different expressions of praise and worship, starting with “Agbanilagbatan”, moving through songs like “Praise The Lord,” “The Battle Belongs to God,” “The Potentate” and “Glory to God in the Highest,” before arriving at “Onye Kam Ga Si Na Oyiri Gi” featuring Mirabel Ekezie and finally “New Beauty.”
Nathaniel Bassey has described The Life Recording as more than just another album. He said the project came from an experience of the River of Life during the worship recording and that the goal was for listeners to experience that same atmosphere through the music.
That is probably the best way to approach “New Beauty.” Don’t just listen to it as another song on an album. Listen to it as a reminder that whatever season you are in now doesn’t have to be the end of your story. God can still bring something beautiful out of it.
And with this being the final track, The Life Recording ends on a hopeful note.
If you’ve followed Nathaniel Bassey’s worship music for years, you’ll probably appreciate the way this project brings together praise, prayer and simple declarations about God. If you’re just discovering the album, “New Beauty” gives you a good reason to listen to the project from beginning to end.
