In the rich tapestry of Nigerian Christian history, the life of the late Evangelist Cornelius Adam Igbudu stands as a powerful testament to faith and divine protection. His ministry, known for its profound impact across the Niger Delta, particularly in the Anglican Church in Araya and surrounding communities, was marked by a miraculous event that seems almost too incredible to believe—until you hear the testimony.
A Rising Ministry Draws Opposition
As Evangelist Adam Igbudu’s ministry flourished, bringing spiritual awakening and drawing many to Christianity, it inevitably stirred opposition. Some, perhaps practitioners of traditional faiths, may have felt threatened as their followers embraced the new message. Others within the church itself might have harbored envy, fearing his growing influence and evangelistic zeal would outshine their own.
This simmering tension reached a deadly climax one fateful day.
A Divine Confrontation: Death Meets Praise
Determined to silence the evangelist, his enemies resorted to a drastic measure: they hired assassins to eliminate him. The hired men found Igbudu and delivered a chilling ultimatum: “We have been paid to kill you, and you must die today.”
Facing imminent death, Igbudu made a simple, profound request. He asked for a final opportunity to sing and praise his God. The assassins, perhaps out of curiosity or a momentary concession, agreed.
What happened next was nothing short of miraculous. As Adam Igbudu began to worship, singing and dancing with a faith that transcended his mortal danger, the tangible presence of God filled the space. The atmosphere shifted from one of violence to one of overwhelming holiness.
The Unlikely Conversion: Weapons Dropped in Worship
Confronted with this divine power, the hearts of the hardened men were transformed. Their murderous intent melted away. They dropped their weapons and, in a stunning turnaround, joined the very man they were sent to kill in praising God.
Their final words to him were a powerful acknowledgment of his divine covering: they declared that he was not a man they could kill. Having experienced this miracle, they left him in peace and never returned.
A Lasting Legacy of Faith
This extraordinary account is more than just a story; it is a cornerstone of the legacy of Evangelist Cornelius Adam Igbudu. It illustrates a profound biblical truth: when you dwell in the presence of the Almighty, even the greatest threats cannot stand. His life reminds us that true spiritual authority and evangelism are founded on a relationship with God so potent that it can disarm hatred and convert the hearts of enemies.
The memory of this miracle continues to inspire believers, serving as a powerful reminder of God’s sovereign protection over those who are dedicated to Him.
This is profoundly incredible. What the enemy planned for evil turned into good . Rest in eternal glory
My mother happened to serve this great man of God. Hope to visit his hometown one day.
