Popular Cooper is one of those Isoko highlife names our elders still mention with a smile, and Unearthed African Recordings has been giving his old records a second life.
“Isoko Club 25” sits on the remastered “Ohwo Ho Isitane” album, credited to Popular Cooper And His All Beats Band. It is a different record from the one that gave us “Uguse, Ogbaile Isoko”, so the band’s catalogue keeps opening up.
The title alone tells you it was made with Isoko people in mind, and at just over eight minutes it gives the band space to stretch out the groove the old way.
