Nkechi Blessing and Phyna Are Taking Their Beef to the Boxing Ring, and Lagos Can’t Wait
So apparently, subshading someone on Instagram isn’t enough anymore. Now you have to put on gloves and settle it in front of a crowd.
That’s exactly what’s happening with Nkechi Blessing and Phyna. The two of them will step into a boxing ring on October 1 at the Federal Palace Hotel in Lagos, and honestly, nobody saw this one coming a few weeks ago.
Here’s how we got here. Nkechi and Phyna had a bit of back-and-forth online recently. Nkechi came for Phyna about how often she gets into online drama, and Phyna wasn’t having it. She clapped back, reminding people that the two of them had actually talked about doing a movie together before all this. So there was history there, and clearly some tension too.
Now, instead of letting it die down on social media the way these things usually do, someone had a bigger idea. Balmoral Group Promotions, the same people behind Nigeria’s celebrity boxing scene, decided to turn the rivalry into an actual fight night. They’re calling it “Chaos in the Ring,” and this particular matchup has been tagged “Phyna vs Nkechi.”
A promo poster went out showing both women dressed for battle, and the caption basically dared fans to guess who’d come out on top once the bell rings. It’s the kind of thing that gets people talking immediately, because let’s be honest, nobody expected Nkechi Blessing to end up in a boxing ring over an online argument.
Nkechi, for her part, isn’t shying away from any of it. She’s been sharing the promo material herself and letting Phyna know she’s more than ready for whatever comes on fight night.
They won’t be the only names on the card either. Speed Darlington and Portable are also billed to fight that same night, which tells you this isn’t a small event. Balmoral has built a whole reputation around putting entertainers in the ring, having previously featured people like Portable, Charles Okocha, and Carter Efe. If those fights are anything to go by, expect a wild atmosphere.
The whole thing will be broadcast live on DAZN and SuperSport, so if you can’t make it to Lagos physically, you’ll still get to watch it play out.
At this point, the only real question left is whether all that online tension actually shows up once they’re both in the ring. October 1 will tell us.
