Nigerian rapper and music executive, Illbliss, has made a plea for Nigerians to become more accepting of people living outside their states of origin.
During a recent appearance on the “Outside The Box” podcast, the rapper, famously known for his hit track “Aiye Po Gan,” spoke out against the rise of controversial comments directed at non-indigenes.
In a country where ethnic and religious tensions often Take over the conversation, Illbliss reminded his audience that Nigeria is stronger when its citizens work together.
He Emphasized that people moving across state lines to seek better opportunities are not a burden; rather, they are important contributors to the growth and development of their communities.
To prove his point, the rapper focused on the relationship between the Igbo community and Lagos State.
He noted that the Igbos have been a help to the success of Lagos, playing a great role in trade and local business.
He argued that everyone’s hard work makes the state wealthy, regardless of their tribe or background.
Illbliss explained that forcing outsiders to live the state where they work makes no sense, He warned that doing this will cause massive confusion and destroy the economy
He stated:
“The Igbos have contributed so much to the Lagos economy in terms of trade and commerce. I wonder what would happen if you asked every Igbo person to leave. That’s why I’m always surprised when I hear things like, ‘If you’re not from Lagos State, go back to your state.’”
The artist expressed his deep frustration that, despite Nigeria having existed as a unified nation for many decades, ethnic and religious Tribalism remains a Problem.
He lamented that these divisions stops the country from reaching its full potential, noting that the persistent nature of these problems sometimes makes him question the historical foundations of the country.
Illbliss emphasized that for Nigeria to move forward, citizens must change their mindset toward being more accommodating.
He propose for a society where one’s place of residence does not control their rights or their ability to belong.
By enabling a spirit of unity rather than division, he believes Nigerians can overcome the barriers that have slowed down the country’s progress.
His message serves as a reminder that the different cultures of Nigeria is one of its greatest assets.
