Artist: Nathaniel Oruma
Song: Ovie
Duration: 12:28
Prince Nathaniel Oruma has given Urhobo highlife lovers a lot of audio over the years, but “Ovie” lets you see the man and his band at work.
This is one of the official videos on his own YouTube channel, posted in June 2022 with IG Distribution behind the release. Only a month earlier, he had put his fifteen-track album Oghene Biko on Audiomack, so 2022 was clearly a busy year for him.
In Urhobo, “ovie” means king, a word every Urhobo child grows up hearing at ceremonies and in praise songs. Running for more than twelve minutes, the song is cut for proper dancing, not a quick listen.
If you enjoyed “Egha”, settle in and watch “Ovie” from start to finish below.
