Mention Urhobo music anywhere in Delta and the name Okpan Arhibo will come up sooner or later. Fans called him the King of Urhobo music, and songs like “Konojuvwe” and “Urhobo Makosa” made him a household name.
His catalogue is huge. A 2016 report on his United States tour credited him with about 200 albums, and his promoter said it was the first time an Urhobo traditional musician was performing there.
“Akpodiogaga” is one of the recordings Music Tempo Productions put on streaming in 2022, and it runs past sixteen minutes, the long and patient style our elders enjoyed. If you liked “Ikenike Gbere” on this site, this one belongs on the same playlist.
