Long before “This Year (Blessings)” made him a household name, Victor Thompson was already lifting praise in the language of his roots. “Otega” is one of those moments, shared on his own Audiomack page in late 2021.

He labelled it an Urhobo and Isoko spontaneous worship. That means the singing flows freely in the moment instead of following a fixed, rehearsed arrangement, the way worship often stretches on when the Spirit is moving in church.

Victor Ufuoma Thompson was born in Lagos, but his family comes from Okpara-Inland in Ethiope East, Delta State. He first caught national attention on The Voice Nigeria in 2017 and has since picked up a Headies nomination and a Billboard Music Awards nod.
