In a move to improve the quality of education, Hon. Warri Friday Ovoke, Chairman of Isoko South Local Government Council, has initiated a comprehensive screening of all teaching and non-teaching staff in the area’s primary schools. This initiative aims to identify and address issues such as ghost workers, deceased staff still on payroll, and employees due for retirement, which have been inflating the council’s wage bill.
The screening committee comprises representatives from the Isoko South Local Government Council, state delegates, the Local Education Authority, the Nigeria Union of Teachers, and non-teaching staff. This diverse process ensures a thorough and unbiased assessment of the current staff strength.
On March 13, 2025, the committee commenced its work by visiting ten primary schools, including Arasa Primary School Iwride/Oviri, Ikiagbodo Primary School, Akokotu Primary School, Owholomu, and Olomoro Primary School in Olomoro town. Other schools visited were Okpolo Primary School Enwhe, Oviota Primary School Enwhe, and Omode, Itimi, and Irri Primary Schools in Irri Town.
Hon. Osuofa Aziakpono, Secretary to the Local Government, represented Chairman Warri during these visits. He urged the committee members to perform their duties diligently and impartially to achieve the desired outcomes. Additionally, he encouraged both teaching and non-teaching staff to instill good morals in pupils, shaping them into future ambassadors of their respective schools.
This proactive approach shows the council’s commitment to enhancing the educational system by ensuring that resources are appropriately allocated and that only qualified personnel are entrusted with the education of young minds.
