Over 200 Elderly Women Receive Christmas Food Support From Isoko South Chairperson’s Wife

It was a day filled with joy, gratitude, and warm emotions in Isoko South as over 200 elderly women gathered in Oleh to celebrate Christmas in a very special way. The atmosphere was festive, colourful, and full of love as the wife of the Isoko South Local Government Area Chairman, Mrs. Abigail Warri, hosted aged mothers from across the council area and supported them with food items to mark this year’s Yuletide celebration.

The event took place at Otobo Hall within the Isoko South Council Secretariat, the administrative headquarters of the local government. Elderly women from different wards arrived early, many dressed in traditional attire, as they waited patiently to receive the Christmas packages prepared for them. The mood was cheerful, with music, dancing, and smiles reflecting the spirit of the season.

Speaking at the event, Mrs. Abigail Warri explained that the initiative was born out of a genuine desire to care for elderly women, especially during a season that represents love, giving, and togetherness. She described aged mothers as pillars of society who deserve respect, care, and support, particularly in their later years.

She praised women across the wards of Isoko South, acknowledging their strength, commitment, and roles in holding families and communities together. According to her, the programme was a way of reminding the elderly women that they are seen, valued, and not forgotten.

Mrs. Abigail also delivered a goodwill message from the wife of the Delta State Governor, Her Excellency Deaconess Tobore Oborevwori, whom she described as a woman of grace, compassion, and genuine love for the women of Delta State. She told the gathering that the First Lady sent her love, prayers, and best wishes to all the elderly women present.

The wife of the council chairman did not fail to appreciate her husband, Hon. Comrade Warri Ovoke Friday, fondly known as Warri 4 Your Worries, for his continuous support, leadership, and dedication to improving the welfare of the people of Isoko South. She noted that his encouragement made initiatives like this possible.

In an emotional address, Mrs. Abigail described the gathering as more than just an event. She said it was an act of love, care, and responsibility, aimed at bringing comfort and joy to the lives of the elderly women during the Christmas season. She assured them that the local government would continue to make efforts toward their well-being and inclusion.

She also thanked local government women leaders and ward women leaders for their dedication, mobilisation, and unwavering support, describing them as strong pillars in their respective wards. She prayed for God’s blessings upon them and expressed appreciation to all the women for their patience, prayers, and continuous support.

One of the most touching moments of the event was when Mrs. Abigail joined the elderly women on the dance floor, sharing laughter and joy with them. The atmosphere was further lifted by goodwill messages from Mrs. Eloho Oziwele, PhD, and heartfelt words of appreciation from several beneficiaries who could not hide their happiness.

Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Mrs. Abalaba expressed deep gratitude to the chairperson and the management of the Isoko South Local Government Area. She described the gesture as timely and meaningful, noting that the food items would help reduce the burden and challenges faced by the elderly women during the festive season.

Items distributed at the event included bags of rice, beans, groundnut oil, and other essential cooking items to support Christmas celebrations in their homes.

Also present at the occasion were the Vice Chairman of Isoko South Local Government Area, Hon. Theresa Ikrike, the wife of the leader of the Isoko South legislative arm, the majority leader of the legislative arm, councillors, the supervising councillor for community service, party women, and other stakeholders.

The event ended on a joyful note, leaving many elderly women with smiles on their faces and gratitude in their hearts, as Isoko South once again demonstrated the true meaning of Christmas through love, care, and community support.
