Wizard Chan, born Fuayefika Maxwell, is an Ijaw singer who grew up in Rivers State. He calls his sound “Afro Teme”, which he explains as African spiritual music in his native language.
“Earth Song” is the record that put him on the map. He released it on Christmas Eve 2022, and in 2023 it won Best Alternative Song at The Headies.
Afrocritik calls it a meditative track that mixes gongs, bells and other Ijaw music elements with folk, highlife, hip-hop and soul.

What “Earth Song” is really carrying
According to Pan African Music, the song promotes Ijaw culture and reminds listeners of what it means to be human. Chan sees himself as a custodian of the culture of the Ijaw, the riverine people spread across the Niger Delta.
Afrocritik also points to how he uses his native Ijaw language to carry emotion with deep intimacy, which helps explain why a song built on old sounds still feels so personal.
