Veteran Yoruba rap pioneer Lord of Ajasa just became a US citizen, and his flag-waving video says it all. Here’s the story behind his big milestone abroad.

Remember Lord of Ajasa? Well, he just became an American.

The Nigerian rapper, whose real name is Olusegun Osaniyi, announced that he’s now an official US citizen. He shared the news on Instagram with photos and videos, and one clip in particular has people talking.

In the video, he’s standing on an American street, waving the US flag like a man who has waited a long time for this day. And he didn’t hold back on the excitement.

“I am now a citizen of the city, let them hear,” he said.

His wife, Funmi, was right there beside him, cheering him on. It’s a sweet moment, and you can tell it meant a lot to both of them.

If you grew up listening to Nigerian music in the early 2000s, his name probably rings a bell. Ajasa is from Ondo State, and he blew up with his hit song “Ma Yi Lo.”

What made him stand out was his Yoruba-language rap. At a time when many people thought rap only worked in English, he showed that our own language could carry the beat too. That’s why he’s often named among the pioneers who helped push indigenous rap into the mainstream.

He also worked with some big names along the way, including 9ice and the late Da Grin. Just hearing Da Grin’s name probably takes some of you back.

Ajasa moved to the US years ago, but he never really disappeared from fans’ screens. He keeps sharing little pieces of his life there, from work to family moments, so people have been following his journey from afar.
So this citizenship news feels like the next chapter of a story fans have been watching for a long time.

It’s easy to forget how much a milestone like this means to someone who left home and built a new life from scratch. For Ajasa, it’s one more big moment on a long road.

And for those of us who grew up on his music, it’s a nice reminder that the man who made Yoruba rap cool has come a long way.
